This is a place where I have some information on my mother's ancestral families with an emphasis on proving or disproving the claims of Indian ancestry in some of the family lines.
Many people in North America have claims of Indian ancestry and hopefully the links and info. provided here may help the reader in his/her search for their roots and in understanding how Indian ancestry came to be claimed in so many different people.
Among these links are pages I created from messages posted at either the Tuscaroras.com discussion forum or the North Carolina Nativelink discussion forum by Teresa Morris on Tuscarora History and the migration to New York which I believe may be helpful to myself and others in searching for our possible Indian roots.
If we do indeed have Indian ancestry it would likely be made up of Tuscarora, Cherokee, Monacan and/or other tribes that inhabited the regions from North Carolina to Virginia and other surrounding areas. The pages and website links in this website reflect some of that. I hope they can be helpful in other peoples search for North American Indian forebears.
At this time however I have not found any concrete evidence that shows an actual established connection with a particular tribe. The Indian lore in my maternal families comes mostly from family tale and expressions that
this person or that person "looks Indian".
One must keep in mind that various people migrating from different parts of Europe already fit the "swarthy complexion, dark hair and eyes" that many of our ancestors in these families
were discribed as being. Many of these people came from Palatinate German families who poured into Pennsylvania and moved downward toward the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
