Hmmmmmmm? Part of the money was used for purchasing horses and supplies
for removal
of those migrating, another part was used for purchasing lands in NY. June
1803, Sacaruse
and Longboard led more Tuscaroras northward.
Jeremiah Slade of Martin County, NC was given power of attorney and left
to collect the
rents.
The NC Archives has a map of the land allotted to the Tuscarora Nation of
Indians in NC.
This Act was of the NC General Assembly of 1748. Surveyed in 1803 by W.H.
Boyce.
It is important to note and pay attention to the fact that the law allowed
the Tuscaroras to
lease their undemised land and to E X T E N D old leases. They were expire
in 1916. The
land was then to revert to the state. The law "provided" a C O M M I S S I
O N in NC of 3
to represent the best interests of the state. Jermiah Slade, William
Hawkins and Colonel John
Binford was it.
