When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder....Will You Be There? hmm (by Teresa Morris)
This is a message posted at the Tuscaroras.com discussion forum by Teresa Morris on September 27, 1998.
Remember this: Not all of the Ska-roh-reh Roots are
to be called out on the
ROLL Up Yonder. Why? Not all of the Ska-roh-reh
moved away after the
Tuscarora War to upstate. Why? For starters all kinds
of reasons...some due to
age, others not having enough money to pay for access
to traveling between what
is now known as states, poor health, age, just to name
a few. Remember this:
Here in North Carolina we do have our own stories to
share, songs to sing that
proudly honors our native roots right where we are.
This is good and shows we
are alive and well. It also shows we are MOVING
FORWARD. For those of you
wanting to connect with that part of your Tuscarora
past and future but have
difficulty in doing so remember this: I for one
considers the native paths and
roots of my ancestors. Where in fact did they call
home? A. You do not have
to have your name on any roll to be Tuscarora. B.
You do not have to have
your name signed off by any individual to celebrate
your Tuscarora Roots and
Shoots. C. Here in North Carolina there are those
of us that are in fact
DAILY building that educational and spiritual bridge
from here to there and
beyond eternity for those individuals and or families
that have been "hungry" to
know more about their ancestors walking the walk and
talking the talk BUT have
not had a vehicle let alone access to honor that part
of their purpose in their
lifelong journey. If you go to the Carlisle Rolls or
any other Rolls and
discover none of your "familiar" surnames or names are
listed when the roll is
called up yonder does not mean you are not Tuscarora.
What it does mean is that
for a variety of manmade reasons that go along with
the manmade paper trails
certain names made it to the paper trail while others
refused to have their
names associated with clics.
